Mercedes electrifies its SLS supercar!

Mercedes-Benz was never secretive about the development of an all-electric version of its new supercar shortly after the car’s launch. Named the SLS AMG E-Cell Prototype and draped in AMG Lumilectric Mango paint, it will use a total of four electric motors – two at each axle – driving all four wheels.

Power output? 526 hp and 649 lb-ft of torque will make sure this green-conscioused Merc is no slouch off the line. The sound of this gullwinged beauty must be surreal as it climbs its 12,000 rpm range courtesy of the all-electric power unit.

The interior receives unique touches such as the ten-inch touch screen which displays power distribution from the electric motors, audio and climate controls, and navigation. The seats, steering wheel, door linings, and center console are all upholstered in a mix of black-and-white leather and Alcantara suede.

So why did AMG do this to the SLS? Mercedes’ AMG Performance 2015 strategy is to “continually reduce the fuel consumption and emissions of new models in the coming years, while at the same time enhancing the core brand value of performance.” Me likey!

Perfect car, now they can program the power electronics to distribute the power to each wheel and change the feel and the handling of the car with a touch of a button! I can call it “virtual differentials”.

It looks like a florescent marker! Horrible color.
