Launched! Caterham and Lola’s new track-carver!! (w/videos)

For the first time in 17 years, Caterham have unveiled a completely new track machine: the SP/300R. Built in collaboration with experienced race car manufacturer, Lola, the SP/300R resembles a Le Mans prototype racer.

The new Caterham will use a mid-mounted and supercharged Ford Duratec engine pumping out 300bhp, that’s mated to a semi-automatic gearbox. Weighing in at less than 600kg, the SP/300R will be more than capable of nailing 0-100 km/h times of 2.5 seconds and landing a top speed of approx. 274 km/h!

This partnership gives Caterham the benefit of Lola’s expertise in chassis design. Using a flat under-body, front splitter, a large rear wing and an aluminum tub all help keep the SP/300R light on its feet and firmly planted through corners. Adjustable ride-height suspension with front and rear double wishbones, along with sticky Cooper tires are also on duty to maximize track domination.

Only 25 examples of the SP/300R will be built annually at a price of approximately £60,000 British pounds each. For now, the SP/300R is is a track model only, but Caterham are looking into producing road models as well. If I had the cash, I’d buy one in a heartbeat!
