Video: Solar-powered roads the way of the future?

Would you feel safe driving on a glass highway?

An engineer – Scott Brusaw – has come up with a solar-powered roadway concept made from super-strong glass, instead of conventional asphalt or concrete. You say he’s crazy? So far, he’s generated interest from the U.S. government and General Electric.

The innovative glass would have solar cells placed underneath the surface, making the roadway act as a massive solar power generator. Electricity generated by the solar cells could be used to recharge electric vehicles being driven on the highway, while also powering lights and LED warning signs emanating from the road itself. Watch the video after the jump to see exactly how it would work.
