Video: Cheesy vintage Formula 1 TV ad + a few more treats! You gotta love the 80s!
What you’re about to see is a very short Formula 1 commercial promoting the 1985 Adelaide Grand Prix in Australia. A race which included names like Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, and Keke Rosberg (father of Nico). Watch the ad after the jump, as well as an extra treat!
The first “treat”, as promised, is a not-so-high-quality review of that actual race, with Ayrton Senna as the narrator. Watch the 2:28 mark when Senna launches his John Player Special Team Lotus car over the kerb and manages to regain control effortlessly. Pure genius!
And last but not least, Ayrton Senna’s pole position qualifying lap at the 1985 Adelaide Grand Prix. Watch how he wrestles the car and has it completely at his mercy! What’s also great about this video is the fact that we get to hear the amazing and legendary Murray Walker commentate. Enjoy!

Those older F1 engines sounded so good. They had a lower pitch as compared to the newer generation ones which scream @ 19k RPM.

So true! I loved the sounds from the older F1 cars. I also was a big fan of the V10 engines. I was lucky to go to a race before they switched to the V8s and it was ear piercing stuff.
