Samsung builds android phones, TVs… and cars?
Samsung has a reputation for making some of the best electronic devices out there. How about cars? In 1994, Samsung Motors was formed in competition with its South Korean neighbor, Hyundai. In the year 2000, after hard times trying to find success in the auto industry, Samsung sold a 70% stake to French giant Renault, renaming the company Renault Samsung Motors.
Since then, there have been numerous Samsung models, but its new luxury sedan – the SM7 – is one the company is very proud of. Aimed directly at Hyundai’s flagship, the Genesis, the SM7 boasts a lot of luxuries such as LED lights, a Bose sound system, a tri-zone air-conditioning unit with an air ionizer, dual-sunroofs and more.
The SM7 is powered by six-cylinder VQ25 (190hp) and VQ35 (258hp) engines courtesy of Nissan, Renault’s strategic partner. All SM7 models will be available with six-speed automatic transmissions.
I don’t know if we’ll be seeing Samsung cars anywhere on our shores in the near future, but hey, there’s always room for one more.

I worked in Korea for 7 months. Samsung and Hyundai not only do these stuff. They have fashion labels, food, supermarkets, mega stores, engineering and construction, and anything you can think off. super hard working nation

I totally agree. I don’t think a lot of people realize how many different industries these far east companies – such as Hyundai, Samsung, Toyota, etc. – are involved in. It’s crazy when you really look into it!

A lot of these auto companies are actually just a small part of their parent organizations. Hyundai makes ships and cargo vessels! Mitsubishi is also into heavy industries and stuff. 🙂

On further inspection, the rear design seems to be inspired by the Jag XJ or maybe they were designed in the same studio 🙂

The elongated swooping pillars leading to the trunk do have a bit of XJ flare to them. I think the angle of the car in the pic gives that feeling as well.

I wonder if they were the first to have built in bluetooth in their cars?
