Video: The final tribute to Marco Simoncelli

On the 23rd of October, 2011, MotoGP racer – Marco Simoncelli – died in a fatal crash during the Malaysian Grand Prix. As a tribute on the 6th of November, riders from all three racing categories of the World Championship (125cc, 250cc, MotoGP) departed from the Valencia circuit’s pit lane together, and completed a lap of the circuit to honor the Italian.

The tribute was led by 1993 World Champion and racing legend, Kevin Schwantz, riding Simoncelli’s San Carlo Honda Gresini RC212V bike. The riders made their way around the circuit to the finish line; awaiting them were representatives from the local authorities and MotoGP’s governing bodies (Dorna, IRTA and the FIM), along with paddock members.

Once the bikers took their positions, a two-minute Valencian Mascletà traditional firecracker display took place. I almost choked up at one point. R.I.P. Marco. Watch the tribute after the jump.

Very tragic indeed. It was around this time last year that one of our dear friends lost his life in a biking accident in Dubai. Both of them were so young.
