The new Mercedes-Benz SL leaked onto the internet *UPDATED

Update: Engine and transmission specs are now available after the jump.

No secret in the auto world seems to be safe from the internet. The latest victim is Mercedes-Benz’s new SL.

The car is set to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2013 (9th – 22nd). Engine specs and many other details have not surfaced as of yet, but the car is definitely expected to shed quite a bit of weight, all in the name of efficiency and handling.

The new SL pulls together a lot of cues from its big brother, the SLS AMG. The front grille and the overall aggressive lines mimic those of the gullwing beauty.

And finally, Mercedes are back to designing great interiors. Fit and finish will be of the highest quality, for sure.

Mercedes-Benz will also offer numerous interior options, such as a variety of leather and trim choices.

We can also expect the new SL to boast a ton of new tech considering every generation of the model ups the game. Stay tuned for specs and details once the car hits Detroit.

UPDATE: The new SL is expected to shed somewhere between 125kg to 140kg of weight, thanks to the extensive use of aluminum. The car’s structure will also tune in with 20% more torsional rigidity than the outgoing car, meaning less flex and better handling.

In the engine department, the SL350 will use a 3.5-liter V6 with 302bhp and 273lb ft of torque. 0-100km/h is to be reached in approximately 5.9 seconds.

The SL500 will be graced with a twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8 unit producing 429bhp and 516lb-ft, nailing 0-100km/h in approx. 4.6sec.

The transmission called into duty with both engines will be the 7-speed automatic gearbox.

@Kuwaiti Boys Toys: Will start saving up from now lol

@Marzouq: In recent times, MB have really fallen off the mark for me as well… the SLS AMG definitely brought back some hope for the brand in my eyes.

@Hamoud: The AMG will definitely be one aggressive-looking machine!
