Launched! Audi A1 quattro

It’s the car that won’t leave Brake Banzeen alone. First it was the 2-door Audi A1 which I reviewed. Then it was the 4-door – European only – model. And now… this!

Available only in Glacier White metallic, with the roof painted high-gloss black, Audi has transformed the little hatchback into a Group B rally machine. The contrasting black, red and white elements really elevate the A1 into another category of car. Throw in the exclusive turbine design wheels and all you need now is Walter Rohrl to really take you back in time.

To match the go-fast looks, Audi is using the 2.0-liter  TFSI engine, turbocharged to produce 256hp and 258lb-ft of torque to all four wheels, hence the “quattro” moniker. The A1 quattro zooms from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds with a top speed of 245km/h.

The interior gets the sports treatment, with black S sport seats draped in Silk Nappa leather with contrasting red seams. The center console has a section which is finished in high-gloss black, while the footrest and the pedal caps are made of brushed stainless steel. Just to remind you that this isn’t the run-of-the-mill A1, the door sill wears A1 quattro badges.

The dash consists of a gauge cluster with a red tachometer and white needles. A multifunction sport steering wheel houses the car’s serial number, wrapped in black leather with contrasting red stitching.

Limited to just 333 units, the A1 quattro will come to life in 2012.

I’m already fantasizing about revving it to red-line rpm changing to 3rd gear while turning left across one of Sharqs’ traffic lights!
