Riding ‘shotgun’ isn’t always a bad thing

For the second consecutive year, Audi and Lamborghini of Kuwait – represented by Fouad Alghanim & Sons Automotive (FAS) – sponsored the GulfRun. At this year’s event, GulfRun 7, they showcased the Audi R8 V10, the Audi RS 5, the Lamborghini LP570-4 Spyder and the Lamborghini LP570-4 Superleggera.

As if getting close to the cars wasn’t enough of a treat, FAS gave GulfRun participants and guests the opportunity to experience high-speed ‘taxi rides’ with their professional drivers.

The first part of my ‘experience’ was a ride in the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder. We followed a lead safety car through the course, which gave me a chance to get re-accustomed with the track. It was also great to enjoy the aural awesomeness of the Italian engine roaring about with the top down.

Then it was time for some serious hot laps in the Audi R8 V10 with James Burnett, Executive Race and Drive School Manager at the Dubai Autodrome, who represents Audi.

The R8 V10 was like putty in his hands, obeying his every command.

Next up was the Lamborghini Superleggera. Sliding into the interior with its plethora of carbon fiber, I knew I was in the company of something very special. At the wheel of the ‘super-light’ Lambo was Sebastian Mordillo, who has plenty of track experience under his belt as a driving instructor.

Sebastian had a completely different driving style altogether. He chose to brake a lot later, probably due to the amazing brake kit on the Superleggera.

Two different drivers, two different cars, two different experiences. Thanks FAS for the memories!

Here are a few more pics… enjoy!

Looks like you had a good time 😉
Next year you need a hood mounted cam to show the guys just how much they do drift 😉
More surprises are in store for you next year. Great coverage of the event. Your perspective is unique – 2 thumbs up!

Audi RS5?!!?? My prayers have been answered! Hopefully they will bring them to the states. Driven an Murcielago LP640, those cars are fun.
