Got skills using a camera? Here’s your chance to prove it!

The Historical, Vintage & Classic Car Museum of Kuwait has begun its 2nd Automotive Photography Contest, which kicked off on the 17th of May and will end on the 20th of June, 2012. During this time period, the event is hosted at the Main Exhibition Hall at the museum, located in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area next to AlGhanim Industries headquarters.

The competition is expected to serve as a platform to document the creative photography of Kuwait-based car enthusiasts. This event is one of many developed by the museum with the ambition of gathering and involving car enthusiasts throughout Kuwait, aiming to further develop their interests and hobbies related to cars. Contest details and prizes are highlighted after the jump.

Contest Categories

Contestants can participate in any of the following categories:

1 – Best Photo of a Car

2 – Micro Photo of the Car

3 – Black and White

4 – People’s Choice (voted by the museum’s visitors)

Competition Rules and Regulations

• The last day to participate and submit the photographs is on Saturday the 2nd of June, 2012.

• All images will be displayed in the museum.

• Images will be displayed from the 3rd to 19th of June, 2012.

• On Wednesday the 20th of June 2012, the competition winners will be announced and awards will be presented.

• The winning photos will be displayed in the museum.

• Participation is open to all photographers.

• Participants must submit a copy of at least one image and at most three images to join the competition.

• The size of image(s) must be 50 x 70 cm (portrait or landscape formats).

• Pictures are to be printed on Foam Board material with a thickness of 5 or 10mm.

• Submit a copy of high-resolution images on a CD (1500 × 23000 pixels at a minimum).

• The images should be clear of any details, information and /or watermarks.

• Substantial changes, modifications and edits to the images are not allowed; minor touchups are acceptable.

• Winners will be selected by a panel of qualified judges who specialize in the field of photography.

• The judges decision will be final and is not open for discussion.

• Upon participating, all contestants grant the museum Copyright access to use the images submitted and may not reclaim any rights.

• When participating in the competition, contestants acknowledge that the images are their work, and are owned solely by them.

• Participants agree to the allow the museum to use their names as participants or winners in all forms of media.

• The museum reserves the right to cancel the competition at any time and without prior notice to participants.

• The museum reserves the right to change the dates of the competition at any time and without prior notice to participants.

Photos will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

Innovation – Style – Lighting – Composition – Harmony of Colors – Center of Attention

1st     1000 KD

2nd      750 KD

3rd       500 KD

Color Category

1st        500 KD

2nd      300 KD

3rd       200 KD

Logo Category

1st        500 KD

2nd      300 KD

3rd       200 KD

Black & White Category

1st        500 KD

2nd      300 KD

3rd       200 KD

The remaining top 50 winners will receive a prize of 50 KD. There will also be additional winners chosen by car marques, a surprise for all participants.

Competition Photos will be presented to the public at the main exhibition hall, where all visitors can vote for their favorite photo by writing the number of the photo and dropping it in the drop box. The image receiving most of the votes wins the People’s Choice Award, receiving a special gift.

Participation in the competition is open to all photographers in Kuwait. Contestants should visit the museum and fill out a Participation Form, and submit their photos during the official working hours (9:00am – 12:00pm and 5:00pm t- 8:00pm).

    Did you take those pictures in the post? Interesting setting between east & west; contemporary & past. I don’t have amazing skills with my camera but I would have loved to take part in this but I don’t have the right equipment or the time. You should join!

    I’m in love with the second car.

    @Miss Good Egg: No I didn’t, the images were supplied by the museum. You should definitely take part in the competition, you have nothing to lose! Some of the best pictures are taken with a regular handheld camera, it’s just about capturing the right moment 🙂

    I just submitted my entries last evening. Looks like the competition will be tough this year. Lots of talented guys in Kuwait. I agree with the above comments. We need more events like this!
