Brief moments spent with a McLaren…

It’s that time of year when the weather’s beginning to cool down and you’d expect to see lots of car groups going out on drives. My friends and I tend to partake in this horsepower-filled pastime meeting up somewhat consistently on weekends. Last week, a friend called me up and said he wanted to organize a drive for the weekend promising to bring along a “surprise”. YES, it was the McLaren MP4-12C.

We met up at our usual location of choice, quickly hitting the road as traffic was starting to build coupled with the fact that one hour later would see the temperature rise dramatically. As soon as we started moving, the one thing you couldn’t deny was that the McLaren had the best and most distinct sound out of all the cars.

The McLaren’s definitely a looker. People, including the bikers you see above, were all checking it out. Sure, it doesn’t grab attention like a Ferrari would, but its overall stance and – this particular car’s – color combination really make it easy on the eyes.

The car’s 3.8-liter V8, twin-turbo engine is mighty! It develops close to 592bhp mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox which operates smooth as butter. The car goes through its powerband so effortlessly unlike any other supercar I’d driven before. The McLaren actually pinned me to my seat once I smashed the accelerator pedal, while all I could think to myself was “woah”!

That badge, even though mounted on McLaren Automotive’s first proper production car, carries so much weight and respect in the world of cars.

The McLaren icons integrated into the headlight clusters are such a neat touch. I just couldn’t get over how cool they looked.

It was sad to say goodbye to the MP4-12C, especially since I only had such limited time with the car. It represents everything the McLaren brand stands for and what anyone could expect from a company headed by Ron Dennis: clean, composed, calculated and fast. The very same characteristics that define McLaren’s F1 team.

Excellent McClaren, but still no match for the Lamborghini LP 700-4.

Want that in a different post. My pics didn’t come out so great unfortunately (didn’t manage to capture the excitement of it all). Might ask to borrow from another blog and then post about the event.
