Launched! Audi’s new RS6 Avant

The new Audi estate-bodied RS6 has finally arrived! Hands down, the RS6 Avant has always been known to be the world’s most mental wagon, and the new model looks set to carry that reputation forward. The RS6 instantly distinguishes itself from the RS5 with its unique front bumper design housing aggressive side air intakes and matt aluminium accents, as well as the large 3D quattro logo stamped onto the lower part its grille.

Powered by the same twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine used in the S6, S7 and S8, the new RS6 Avant develops 552bhp and 516lb-ft of torque. It may have 28bhp less than its predecessor’s 5.0-liter V10 unit, but it is important to note that torque has increased by 37lb-ft.

The new RS6 Avant weighs in at roughly 100kg lighter than the previous generation model. This definitely has a positive impact on the performance where the quattro all-wheel drive wagon will nail 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 305km/h.

Mated to a ZF 8-speed gearbox, accessible via the steering wheel column’s paddle shifters, along with a host of eco-minded technologies such as stop-start, cylinder on demand which shuts down four of the eight cylinders when the car is developing between 25 and 40% of maximum torque, the RS6 Avant is not only a beast but can be a friendly cruiser for rolling around town.

As always with Audi, the interior is a high-class affair. Top quality leather, carbon fiber and piano black accents set the tone for the RS6 Avant’s sporting intentions. The RS6-embossed sports seats are covered in a diamond quilting design, heavily bolstered for spirited driving.

Prices are yet to be confirmed, but expect to pay premium-type cash in order to get your hands on one.
