Ferrari’s self-loving hypercar… the LaFerrari (w/video)

March 5, 2013

Okay, Ferrari could have definitely been more creative with the name. But could they have possibly been any more creative with the car’s design and features? I definitely think not. Freshly unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, the LaFerrari is the Italian automaker’s follow up to the highly regarded Enzo.

Blessed with a 6.3-liter V12 engine (789hp) mated to an electric motor (160hp) and a 7-speed DCT gearbox, the LaFerrari’s total power output is a mighty 949hp and 663lb-ft of torque. This helps the hypercar achieve some ballistic figures. 0-100km/h in less than three seconds. 200km/h in seven seconds. 300km/h in 15 seconds. Top speed is reached at over 350 km/h.

The LaFerrari’s chassis is 27% more rigid thanks to the integration of items such as the seats and the battery compartment. Showing that they don’t skimp on details, the LaFerrari features (more…)

March 5, 2013

You gotta love the Geneva Motor Show! It’s “unveilings” galore. Porsche took the wraps off its latest GT3, with its new aerodynamic body inclusive of a more aggressive front bumper, additional air intakes and fixed carbon fiber rear wing.

Using the Carrera S 3.8-liter engine as a basis, the GT3 receives 468bhp (39bhp more than its predecessor) and 324lb-ft. The car is also capable of redlining at 9000rpm, which is 500rpm more than the outgoing GT3. How fast to 100km/h from a standstill? (more…)

Alfa Romeo 4C finally in the flesh!

February 13, 2013

The production version of Alfa Romeo’s mid-engined, rear wheel drive 4C has finally been unveiled. Not that the design comes as any surprise. We all knew what the official product would look like thanks to the internet; however, knowing that this is the final spec of the 4C is quite reassuring.

Seeing the 4C in official guise truly makes me happy. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen an Alfa Romeo model which is deserving of the brand’s racing and motoring heritage. Carbon fiber and aluminium seem to have been used extensively throughout the (more…)

This is “a first”… kind of. Not following the normal practice of spinning off limited edition models at the end of a car’s life cycle, Mercedes-Benz has instead opted to kick off the launch of its new CLA model with a limited addition version.

Available over a twelve month period only, the CLA Edition 1 can be ordered in exclusive colors such as (more…)

Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Edition 507

Mercedes-Benz has uncovered a ramped-up special edition model positioned between the regular C63 AMG and its Black Series variant. The Edition 507  name basically says it all with the number representing the amount of horsepower on tap.

Visually, the C63 AMG Edition 507 comes with a few exclusive design features. The model used for the launch has been graced with designo Magno Platinum Matte paint. In contrast, high-gloss black finishing has been applied to items such as the side-view mirror casings, the grille and the lip spoiler. New AMG light-alloy forged wheels, available in titanium grey or matte black, are also exclusive to the Edition 507.

Launched! 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

January 15, 2013

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

I thought I really wanted the C6 Corvette badly… but damn, do I want the new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette even more! Although this could be the most controversial Corvette of our time, this thing simply looks amazing.

2014-Chevrolet-Corvette-Stingray-Front Profile

One thing you can’t argue is that the C7 Stingray draws inspiration from some of the fastest sports cars out there. The front end has a bit of Ferrari in it. The side vents placed behind the front fenders scream “Skyline GT-R”. The double-bubble carbon fiber roof is a concept currently used on the BMW M6. But if that’s the kind of competition the Corvette’s aiming for, then I’m all for it.

Some may disagree on the rear end’s design, but I think it works well with the car especially since it’s a functional design. According to Chevrolet’s press release, the “airflow through the differential and (more…)

Launched! Audi’s new RS6 Avant

December 5, 2012

The new Audi estate-bodied RS6 has finally arrived! Hands down, the RS6 Avant has always been known to be the world’s most mental wagon, and the new model looks set to carry that reputation forward. The RS6 instantly distinguishes itself from the RS5 with its unique front bumper design housing aggressive side air intakes and matt aluminium accents, as well as the large 3D quattro logo stamped onto the lower part its grille.

Powered by the same twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine used in the S6, S7 and S8, the new RS6 Avant develops 552bhp and 516lb-ft of torque. It may have 28bhp less than its predecessor’s 5.0-liter V10 unit, but it is important to note that torque has increased by 37lb-ft.

The new RS6 Avant weighs in at roughly 100kg lighter than the previous generation model. This definitely has a positive impact on the performance where the (more…)
