A fitting end to one of F1’s most competitive seasons ever! Vettel or Alonso? Who will be crowned World Champion this weekend?
If Vettel is to finish 4th or higher, the title is his. On the flip side, Alonso will become chapmion if he wins the Brazilian Grand Prix and Vettel finishes in 5th place or below. If he finishes in 2nd place and Vettel finishes 8th or lower, as well as if he manages a 3rd place finish and Vettel takes 9th or lower, Alonso will take his 3rd title.

Watching the Japanese Grand Prix yesterday, I couldn’t help but think that the Suzuka circuit tends to bring out some of the most dedicated F1 fans in the world. The Japanese truly love their Formula 1! They’re also quite passionate about their “anime” cartoons. After the jump, watch how they combined the two in a Japanese TV ad for the 2007 Spanish Grand Prix. (more…)

After yesterday’s stellar performance in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, starting at 12th and climbing to a 2nd place finish, there is no longer any doubt in my mind that Felipe Massa’s seat at Ferrari will go to Sergio “Checo” Pérez next season. Driving what is considered by most to be a strong midfield car, the Sauber F1, Pérez has put in some exciting performances this season which have not gone unnoticed by the good folks at Scuderia Ferrari.
The reason why this could be the most logical move is that Sergio is a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, an initiative from the Italian team whereby it nurtures and grooms its own young talent. The fact that he is at Sauber F1, a team which uses Ferrari engines, is (more…)

The Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) wishes! Well, FIA boss – Jean Todt – wishes. He hopes to persuade the three manufacturers to join the sport, using plans of heavy cost-cutting measures proposed for 2016 as bait. Todt believes that the FIA need to push for a 30% reduction in F1’s spending in order to save teams from leaving the grid. So, is this wishful thinking?
Panasonic Toyota Racing was the team most recently involved in F1. Never able to secure victory in a Grand Prix, the team only achieved its highest finish of 2nd place five times throughout its involvement in the sport. After much investment and lack of consistency, Toyota pulled the plug after 8 seasons. Why would they return now? It’s no secret that Toyota’s CEO, Akio Toyoda, is a huge fan of motorsport, sometimes taking the wheel himself in races. However, I can’t see them building a business case at this point. They have had quite a rough patch on the manufacturing side over the past few years and a return to F1 may not be the most feasible approach to taking the business back to where it once was.
Audi? Also not really a team I see in F1 in the coming years. Audi has dominated endurance and sports prototype racing in prestigious events like Le Mans and the GT World Championships. Their grip on (more…)

In honor of a fantastic F1 race at Spa yesterday, I thought I would post something related to the sport. It’s not a racing video. It’s not a documentary about the glitz and glamor of it all. It’s about F1’s puppet master. The supremo, as he has become known. Bernie Ecclestone. This video is quite interesting as it provides insight into the aggressive man’s world and his takeover of F1. It’s really an extraordinary story if you ask me. Watch the video after the jump. (more…)
